The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Krachi East, Charles Gyamfi Boateng, has revealed that a petition by boat operators is behind the delay in constructing a bridge in Dambai, Oti Region.
In 2019, President Ikufo Addo promised to construct a bridge to connect adjoining towns in the region. However, four years later, the project remains unbuilt.
“The minister for roads and highways indicated that construction would begin by the fourth quarter of this year,” the MCE said. “However, a petition by boat operators has delayed the project.”
Residents are disappointed and frustrated by the delay. “We were promised a bridge to improve our livelihoods and access basic services,” said a resident. “The delay is affecting our daily lives.”
Another resident added, “We need a bridge to connect our towns. The petition by boat operators is holding us back.”
The MCE explained that national interest takes precedence over individual interest. “You know, the president is somebody, if you say it, he’s doing it,” he said. However, residents are sceptical, wondering if the bridge will ever be built.
