Russia threatens military consequences should Sweden, Finland join NATO

Russia has stated that if Sweden and Finland elect to join NATO, it will have to respond.

On Friday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova conducted a press conference in which she discussed the current violence in Ukraine and Russia’s future objectives.

Ms Zakharova stated, “Finland and Sweden should not rely their security on endangering the security of other countries.”

“Clearly, [Finland and Sweden’s] membership to NATO, which is first and primarily a military alliance, would have major military-political ramifications that would necessitate a response from our country.”

Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said that the country was receiving help from both Russia and the United States.

“We talked about combating the aggressor with [Finnish President Sauli Niinistö].” Mr Zelensky tweeted on Friday, “Informed about our defensive, subtle shelling of Kyiv.”

“Thank you for contributing $50 million in aid to [Finland].” It’s a valuable addition to the anti-war movement. We will continue to work. “We need to tighten sanctions and help [Ukraine’s] defense,” he added.

“Sweden provides military, technological, and humanitarian help to Ukraine,” Mr Zelensky tweeted later. I appreciate [Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson’s] steadfast support. Putting building an anti-Putin coalition.”
