Meet Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, who takes over the Asante Kingdom in Otumfuo’s absence

Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, Mamponghene and Asanteman Nifahene, who occupies the silver stool has taken over as the acting overlord of the Ashanti kingdom in the absence of Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on September 5, 2024, traveled out of his Kingdom to attend the Oguaa Fetu Afahye, an annual festival celebrated by the people of Cape Coast (Oguaa) in the Central Region.

The festival, which typically takes place in the first week of September, is one of the most significant cultural events in Ghana’s Central Region. It marks the 60th anniversary of the festival this year.

In the absence of the Asantehene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II will take care of the Kingdom until Otumfuo returns from the Fanteland.

In other developments, the entire Kumasi is under the care of Bantamahene, Baffuor Owusu Amankwaatia VI, who is the Krontihene of Kumaseman.

He will also administer his role as the caretaker of Kumasi until Otumfuo returns from the coast.

According to Manhyia’s palace affiliate, the Asante Nation, in a Facebook post, upon the return of Otumfuo, the two caretakers of Asanteman will update him about whatever has transpired in his absence.
