Ex-Ivory Coast defender Sol Bamba dies at 39

The death has been reported of former Ivory Coast international Souleymane Bamba.

The former Cardiff City and Leicester City centre-back died on Saturday after being taken ill on Friday before Adanaspor’s game against Manisa. He was the coach of Adanaspor.

Unfortunately, he was confirmed dead on Saturday by the Manisa Celal Bayar University Hospital.

His club confirmed the news and sent a message of condolence to his family.

”Our Technical Director Souleymane Bamba, who fell ill before the Manisa Football Club match played yesterday, was taken to Manisa Celal Bayar University Hospital and unfortunately lost his battle for life there.

“Our condolences to his family and our community.”

Bamba played for the Elephants of La Côte d’Ivoire from 2008 to 2014.

He was part of the squad that lost in the AFCON 2012 final to Zambia.

He was 39.
