There is tension in the New Juaben traditional area following an incident where a group, reportedly led by the New Juaben divisional police commander, broke into the stool room of the Adwampong royal family in Koforidua.
The confrontation unfolded as the queen mother of the Adwampong royal family resisted the unauthorized removal of the black stool, a critical element for the upcoming enstoolment ceremony of a new chief scheduled for today, Thursday, 1 February 2024, at the Yiadom Hwedie Palace.
The queen’s mother, Nana Akosua Afrakoma, who has overseen the stool for 29 years, expressed her resistance, asserting that the proposed chief to be enstooled is a usurper.
Supervised by Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Baah, the Koforidua District Police Commander, acting as the Divisional Commander, the group, accompanied by heavily armed personnel from the Counter Terrorism Unit, forcibly entered the stool room and changed the locks.
Nana Afrakoma II expressed disappointment at the conduct of the district police and called on the Regional Security Council and the National Security Minister to intervene and prevent potential violence.
