Seven Persons in Critical Condition After Robbery Attack

There is a reported case of armed robbery around Jamasi near Mampong in the Asante region with about seven passengers in critical condition.

The incident is said to have occurred at about 2:45 am on Friday 26th January.

The gunmen stopped several cars including a VIP bus with registration number AC 7419-15 which was travelling from Accra to Yeji.

The armed robbers set up a roadblock to obstruct the movement of vehicles.

According to the driver of the VIP bus, the armed robbers signaled him to stop when he was descending a hill. Initially, he thought it was a police checkpoint little did he know that it was a checkpoint mounted by the armed robbers.

“One of them pointed a gun at me, insisting I stop the bus and ordered that I open the door which I did. They entered the bus and started shooting indiscriminately. They stole parcels which had been delivered and my money,” he narrated.

According to one of the passengers, there was a police escort on board the VIP bus who engaged in a shootout with the robbers, thereby injuring one.

Passengers who sustained various degrees of injuries have been admitted to the Mampong Government Hospital.
